Collaboration - the hot  issue for the corporate marketplace

Smart Technologies has sponsored two White Papers on collaborative technologies, developed by AV News in conjunction with Steljes.

The ‘Sellers’ Guide to Collaborative Technologies’ looks at the acceleration of demand for collaboration, driven by competitive pressures and general economic conditions.

The Guide highlights the business opportunities available to resellers and integrators and provides suggestions for sales strategies and checklists of factors that impact on return-on-investment.

A companion document – the ‘Buyers’ Guide to Collaborative Technologies’ – has been produced a document to use with prospective customers, or as a ‘leave behind’ following initial sales call.

NEWS UPDATE

AV News salary survey in association with

AV News has partnered with Lavajobs to provide some insights into the salary and compensation levels operating within the AV industry

Last year saw many changes in the AV marketplace with jobs being lost, recruitment freezes in place and many highly skilled people looking for work. Some of the results of this period - where there were more jobseekers than jobs - resulted in many companies (not just in AV) reducing salary levels for new recruits.

From early this year we saw the reverse situation start to affect employers, with current employees - who had been sitting tight until they felt they could move on - starting to look for other jobs. The freezes that had been in place throughout 2009 (and indeed, late 2008) were lifted and employers were looking for skilled staff once again.

The jobs market was loosening up a little and highly skilled job seekers were not finding it quite as tough and indeed often had more than one job offer on the table. Talent is in the driving seat once again.

Comparing the number of registered vacancies during the second quarter of 2009 with the same period in 2010 we saw an increase of 54%. During this same period the average number of applicants per role has declined from 45 to 11 - a drop of 76%.

David Gallagher, senior consultant at Elementary Resources and AV Jobs commented: "We believe that the affect the recession had on the AV and IT Jobs market is beginning to diminish. Many companies are growing in confidence and looking to recruit more staff. They are now able to plan for the future with more certainty."

"The drop in the average number of applications per role is a sign that AV and IT professionals are being more selective in the jobs they apply for. We have seen them place more importance on career prospects, training, the full compensation package and the company, rather than just the salary"

"We have also seen that more candidates are leaving their jobs by choice, rather than due to reasons such as redundancy. This is a sure sign that the AV and IT Jobs market is heading back towards pre-recession levels"
